This past weekend I had the honor of attending the 64th annual Thunderbird Awards. The Thunderbird Awards are one of my most favorite events all year because they are so classy and I am all about classy!
The purpose of the night is to honor SUU students, faculty, and staff that make SUU such an amazing place. These people are nominated for certain awards after which they apply and those applications are reviewed by a panel of judges. Five or so individuals are picked from the nominees as finalists and then each finalist is interviewed for the award which they are nominated for. The process ends with a fun and fancy night consisting of an awards ceremony where the award recipients are announced and then the Thunderbird ball. The event is open for anyone to come and obviously everyone comes because it is seriously so much fun!
I had the honor of being nominated for an award this year so I attended the ceremony with friends and family. I loved cheering on the finalists for each award because it is a huge deal to even make it to the final round. So many of my great friends were nominated or received awards because of their contributions to SUU and it took all of my inner strength to keep from yelling, “I KNOW THEM!” Don’t worry I never yelled that because that probably wouldn’t count as classy, but after the ceremony was over I yelled it like you wouldn’t believe.
The Thunderbird Awards are such a great event because we get to celebrate everyone that makes SUU such an incredible place. l love the fact that I get to interact with these people every day and learn from their example. Trust me, you can’t find better friends than you can at SUU!
